Poyer, Jr. He was born, May 21, 1950 and died January 4, 2010, attempting to save his dog, which fell through the ice at Swazey Mill Park. He was a person who passionately believed in the Constitution of the United States and who also gave generously to charities. He owned the Hackettstown Auto Parts, numerous businesses, was a first-degree black belt at the Isshin-ryu School of Karate and was an aerobatic pilot who built two experimental biplanes.

Dennis and I trained with Sensei Dale Jenkins, starting in about 1973. He was a fine man who taught Isshinryu for many years at his dojo in Boonton, NJ. His desire to teach his understanding of Isshinryu was passed to his students, whom I hope will continue his legacy.

A viewing will take place this Friday (12-11-09) from 2-4 PM and from 7-9PM at: Iliff-Ruggerio Funeral Home in Newton, NJ. The web site is: www.iliff-ruggeriofuneralhome.com for further information

He was a friend of 26 years, an artist and Second Degree Black Belt at our dojo. Gene loved to train. He lifted weights with the best of them and he loved to expand his Isshin-ryu skills and knowledge.

His sense of humor would light a room.
This gorilla outfit was worn at one of our black belt testing sessions, causing those being tested to doubt their fearlessness when attacked during our night training.

His artwork is displayed at the dojo and on many of our benefit tournament t-shirts.

His friendship, inner drive and humor will be missed.

Whisper

And if I go,
While you’re still here . . .
Know that I live on,
Vibrating to a different measure
Behind a veil you can not see through.

You will not see me,
So you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar
together again,
Both aware of each other.
